The Necessities Of Life

"The necessities of life" is one of the most amazing films I've ever seen. It's a digital animation film totally made by Gerald Guthrie from USA in 2010.

Endless Respawning

"Endless Respawning" was a mixed film between reality and video games. It is made by Andrej Tisma from Serbia in 2009.

Hairpower

It's a video made by Maarit Murka from Estonia. I really like its editing and image compositions. 

Légendes - épisode#1 - Leda

"Légendes - épisode#1 - Leda" is a documentary film made by François Lejault. I was so touched by the girl and her relation to the swans though I doubt that It was all documentary because in many shots I felt they were staged. I like also the image compositions especially at the beginning of the film. Also the very interesting thing is that the filmmaker said that he has filmed the girl for 3 days without even knowing her name.

Palais Longchamp

I went with Laila to Palais Longchamp. It's a very big beautiful park with fountains and water everywhere. Renaud told me before that it was built to celebrate the entrance of water to Marseille. 

We wanted to go to the art museum but we were told that it is under construction and it will be available by 2013; the year which Marseille will be the capital city of culture in Europe. We went to the natural history museum instead which was very interesting with all these dead animals that feel so alive.

ADPEI

I went with Laila to a place called ADPEI. It's more like a community center that works with minorities. They wanted to encourage local people to do or watch art. They chose Laila's video to be shown in their. When we went there, there were so many questions mostly about hijab because Laila's video is about identity represented in hijab. It was a good experience for me to have such discussion and to answer their questions and to correct some misconceptions.

La Fosse

In the evening of the 2nd day of the festival in La Friche a music performance took place in another place very near by called "La Fosse". It's actually a house of a very nice couple who have a new born baby. They live in the upper floor while the ground one is an artistic space. When we went there we found very nice food and the ver nice part was that it was cooked with halal meat which was very considering of them :) The place and the food was opened for anybody. I even met a guy who was not an artist and was just there for the food :)

The music performance was really unique because it was an interactive one where hens and rabbits are the music performers. Though at the end the music got really loud and disturbing which was part of the show, it was just amazing.

Les Instants Video Festival - Day 2

In the 2nd day of the festival I watched a very interesting documentary film called "Automne Allemand" for Michaël Gaumnitz. It's an anti nazi film shows Germany at the time of the war and how people were starving and dying like the other countries in war. It was very interesting for me to see the whole picture of war in both sides. Since I've already attended the Gulf war as a kid I know how terrible it can be. I remember it as if it happened just yesterday.

Also the fact that the archive footage of Germany during the war is mixed with digital painting  made by a pen tablet was really interesting.

Mayye not Mai

It's very ironic that I end up staying in a place called "La Friche la Belle de Mai" and to stay in a district called "La Belle de Mai" because I used to write my name "Mai" when I was a kid like most of the people until I've realized that there are some missing letters in English and that Mai won't be pronounced correctly as the Arabic so I decided to change the spelling of my name to be Mayye. Maybe if I was still writing it Mai it would have been more musical whenever someone asks me where I'm staying :) It would have been Mai of la Belle de Mai :)
